Jonathan Mitchell is a certified student attorney currently studying at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.
A native of the Twin Cities, Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Master’s of Teaching from Bethel University. Before pursuing a career in law, Jonathan worked as a high-school teacher for ten years, both in the Twin Cities and in Latin America. While living in Colombia and Venezuela, he developed a deep appreciation for Latin American culture, food, and landscapes—and delivered a speech alongside President and eventual Nobel Peace Prize winner Juan Manuel Santos!
Since starting law school in 2023, Jonathan has served as president of the Parents Attending Law School student group, worked on Law Review, and gained hands-on legal experience through clerkships with a private estate-planning firm, with Education Minnesota and with the Ramsey County Attorney Office, where he frequently appeared in court as a certified student attorney.
Jonathan’s areas of interest include estate planning, family law, real estate, and student/family educational rights. He plans to take the Minnesota bar in July 2026.
Outside of work, he enjoys camping in the Boundary Waters, playing hockey, piano, and guitar, and spending time with his wife, their two-year-old son, and their dog.
